A Fine Generalist Media Management Suite
Fans of Roxio's media-management software well be delighted with the newest in their line of suites that can manage, edit, store and share various types of digital media, The Roxio Creator CXT 2. As Roxio software has become increasingly more sophisticated over the years since it was best known for the pre-installed old basic CD/DVD Creator in hew PCs, it has resisted the temptation to focus on one type of media only, like many of the other former 'Media Suites" that wound up specializing in producing video editing and production software.
This Roxio suite handles video, photos, music, editing, storage and sharing. No one of the abilities is superlative but all are at least adequate for the average home user. Many uses have gone of the technological 'deep end' by purchasing software that is unnecessarily complex to achieve their purposes and then have found themselves frustrated at the excruciatingly long and steep learning curves. The new Roxio suite is much like a familiar friend seen a couple of years down the road. You still recognize him and feel that you know him. He still talks the same way and seems to still hold the same values. But, somethings have changed, both within and without. This is a supportable metaphor for experienced Roxio users, who like the look and the feel of their programs. They will like this one as well and it will not take them a terribly long time to adapt to the new changes and to learn to use the new features (of which there are many) to their advantage.
For all-around home mutti-media use, this Roxio suite leaves little to be desired. If you like the look and feel of Roxio, you'll be right at home rather quickly.
It loaded for me without problems (Windos 7 Ultimate (64), 16GB RAM and 1tb of HD.) It was up and running in about 30 minutes with both photo and basic video setting configured and ready to go.
If you are looking for software that focuses in on one media type (photos, music, videos, eetc.) this is probably NOT the software for you. The new Creator NXT2 from Roxio is a high-end media management program for generalists who needs all or most of what it offers. Seen in that way, it is a solid and likely reliable program.
Great product, does what it says it will do
I truly love this software. I've had Roxio Creator before when it was just a burn CD type of software. That was easy to use, and this is just as easy.
If you are like me and hate to wade through a huge training video, you click on a function and it gives you instructions as you go. So, no fumbling around trying to figure out what you did so you can do it again. But it does have a training center that will give you tips and tricks.
What I mainly like is that it does what is says it will do. I can create just about anything with it. Right now, I'm scanning photos to put in my mom's memoirs. In 5 minutes I took a faded and scratched photo of her when she was nine, and the scratches and water marks are gone. The focus is a little sharper, and looks perfect to go on the front cover of her book.
Great price for all the neat stuff you can do.
Installation went fine.
Several users apparently had difficulty installing Roxio Creator NXT 2. I installed the program with absolutely no difficulties on a Windows 7 64 bit machine. It replaced an older version of the same program which I uninstalled before the new installation. I use it mainly to create a commercial program disk and CD label. The CD label from the old program loaded fine but the Project to create the disk did not since this version uses a different format.. But it took only a few minutes to create the new project. If I had a lot of projects to create over I would have only given the program 4 stars.
Easy to use media "swiss knife"
If you are familiar with Roxio's NXT suite, NXT2 will be a familiar experience too. For quick and simple media manipulation NXT2 will be simple and provide everything many users will need. For more sophisticated users it will likely not go far enough which is why there is a market for Photoshop, Sony Vegas Pro for video and other powerful pro or semi-pro tools for media. The focus of Roxio NXT2 is ease of use for the average user and that is where it excels.
I have been using the NXT (not "2") version on a laptop for quite some time and I like it. I installed NXT2 on a desktop PC in my office. Both computers are running Windows 7 Pro 64bit with the latest updates applied. The installation was straightforward and uneventful.
The features I use in NXT/NXT2 are pretty much the same. In frequency of use:
* A CD/DVD burning/copying tool.
* Ripping audio CD's to MP3
* Simple image manipulation
* Media format conversion
* Creating short videos
The photo restoration functions work pretty well to heal scans of old or damaged photos. This function is very easy to use. I can do better in Photoshop, but I will take more time and it isn't all that much better and photoshop is more complicated to use. This is a feature I used for the first time in NXT2.
I have recently purchased a USB capable turntable (the Audio-Technica AT-LP120-USB Direct-Drive Professional Turntable ) to digitize my collection of 100+ LP's, many of which were never released on CD or MP3. I expect to use the functions for cleaning up analog audio to be helpful and I'll be updating this review about how well this interesting feature works in practice.
In my business I occasionally perform editing of audio clips and video. These are usually short and simple edits. NXT2 does this fine for the web - either audio or video. I have other tools for more involved or complex projects. The main thing is ease of use. I expect the average user will find editing audio simple enough to have success on the first project.
Burning data CD/DVD's in NXT2 will be familiar to users of almost any version of Roxio. Whether you are using drag-n-drop or burning a CD/DVD iso image it works consistently and reliably. It can also burn audio and other CD/DVD formats. These days I pretty much burn data disks or mp3 disks.
Cross-format conversion and capture is a valuable feature set of NXT2. It makes saving a copy of a youtube and other streaming media practical. Converting to other formats for specific devices provides a lot of flexibility I don't use, but will probably benefit users of game consoles or other media platforms. My phone is fine with the MP3 format I use for my library so no conversion is needed for my main device use.
I only use a subset of the suite of functions in NXT2 and I expect this will be the case for most users. It is nice that the media conversion, capture, calendar creation and other things I don't use are just "in there". When I need to do something simple and quick with media I will go first to NXT2. This is especially true with something I don't do very often. The ease of use built-in means I can approach a task seldom done and make it happen without much of a learning curve.
I hope this helps someone to decide of NXT2 is right for them
EASY TO USE, AND IT WORKS!!!
I read a lot of reviews on this product before I purchased it good and bad, in the past I had used Roxio Easy Media Creator 8 and used the photo editing a lot. With all the negative reviews I read I was hesitant to buy this version, Creator NXT2. I have an ASUS laptop with intel i5 2.3 GHz. It came with Windows 7 and I had just upgraded to windows 8.1. When the price dropped to less than forty dollars I decided to go for it. I made sure windows was up to date and inserted the DVD. I didn't do any special, didn't create a special account to install, nothing. It took about 20 min. and every thing I've used so far is working fine. It looks a lot like Creator 8, with more options, so it is easy for me to get around the different programs. I would recommend this to anyone who wants just basic, easy to use, all in one program for photos, music, and video.
Creator NXT 2
Have been using Roxie Creator software for years. This is probably the most user friendly software they have developed. Great Job.
Roxio Creator NXT 2
Arrived on time and worked perfect on my Windows 8.1 PC. The online tips and tricks for photos is and added benefit.
Roxio Creator NXT 2 Does a good job for the non professional user.
For the price this is a decent deal. It should meet the basic needs of most users for processing, producing and converting audio, video and picture files. The interface is straightforward and easy to understand.
Roxio Creator NXT 2 is not an ultra sophisticated complex DAW (Digital Audio Workstation) nor is it a "Photoshop" equivalent, also it is not $500 plus.
It is very useful for the ordinary users who have found that the basic software supplied with their computer just doesn't go far enough to complete their projects.
Roxio Creator NXT 2
I have been using this software for quit a while now and it works good for me. I do a lot of pictures using Photo Suite, and I like the way it works.
Easy to use & great results
I have use Roxie Creator NXT 2 for several projects now and I find it easy to use and quite helpful.
Picture editing is easy to figure out if you have used editing software in the past. I was especially impressed at how well red eye reduction worked.
I also made a few CDs for the car (yes I live in the Stone Age...no Bluetooth in my car). Again, this project was easy to figure out and finished quickly.
The last project I worked on was making a slide show from photos, setting it to music and burning it to DVD. Creator NXT 2 walked me through step by step. I have never attempted to do anything like this before and it was easy.
The software is capable of so much more. I hope to have time to try out the many features of this comprehensive media suite.
